Center for Puppetry Arts 10 min/ May 2006 Direction and Puppet Construction The Frightful Musicians is the first part of a full-length puppet performance based on the works of James Ensor a surrealist Belgian painter. The performance depicted a trio of animal musicians and James Ensor in the streets of Ostend, Belgium on the last night of the carnival season. Slow motion, visual tableau, and changing the visual focal were utilized to increase theatrical tension. The juxtaposition of images Ensor's paintings was used to explore a sense of the grotesque. |
